Picture of unidentified spider

Comments & ID Thoughts

Spider was observed on of rock that was holding down the reservoir for a garden tower. Spider was observed while I refilled the reservoir with water to water the plants in the tower. The reservoir was dry when I started filling. So the spider was likely hiding under the rock before I started. Legs and body are black with white stripes with a white dot in the center of the abdomen. The pedipalps have a light-blue or teal color. After the hose was removed from the reservoir, the spider swam across from the rock, which was surrounded by water now to the plastic rim of the reservoir. Spider seemed to have no difficulty swimming.

A full album of all photos, and one short video of movement on the rock can be seen here: https://photos.app.goo.gl/WP5tdRD9ip1ACOqI2. Uploaded picture is blurry, but it is the one that best show the pedipalp coloration.

They call these bold jumpers because rather than shy, they are more curious and very people friendly. Often just putting a finger down, they will climb on and be happy to pose for photos. Possibly the most popular pet spider, their are sites dedicated to keeping these. Yes, they can bite if say trapped between fingers, and no doubt feel it, but their venom is very mild an won’t… Read more »
