Argiope aurantia. My first sighting! I tried to confirm that they are "palm-sized" and did better at confirming that they don't want to touch human skin. The silk strand she used to travel from her web looked and felt like lightweight fishing line monofilament. She was living next-to a golf course.

Beautiful. Don’t think I’ve seen these before. We have a lot of Orb Weavers where I live, and so far they are the most colorful spiders I’ve seen (and perhaps one of the most varied).
