About the size of an adult hand. Moved very fast when startled. Found indoors in a bedroom. Stopped moving when light was turned on and only started moving again when startled.

I’ve had the suggestion it might be a huntsman?

Yes, Heteropoda venatoria, the Huntsman Spider, seems likely. 🙂
