Hogna lenta, Carolina Wolf Spider? Male with swollen palps. I found three wolf spiders in an outdoor salt&chlorine swimming pool. They were all apparently there deliberately. My "rescue" attempts led to them repeatedly jumping back in the pool. They floated like Fishing Spiders and clung to things where dead insects drift. The region had a record-breaking heat wave and a drought. It finally rained yesterday and the insects and birds swarmed in the fields. This spider refused to let go of my hand except when it was over the pool. I made him go to wet grass instead. Being in the pool would have been fatal for him because of my Arachnophobe-in-Law.
