This spider had a glowing sac on it’s back. It was standing I’ve never seen this big if a spider before. Anyone know what it was??
Not yet, but that is really cool! We’ve had a couple of other sightings of glowing spiders before. I’m intrigued and will try to find out what it is.
I couldn’t find evidence of bioluminescent spiders though some millipedes, insects, and centipedes glow in the dark. There are more bioluminescent microbes and they can infect an arthropod. If they are parasites they may also force the host to climb high and pose in a way that maximizes the spread of the parasite into the air. Causing the host to glow would be an interesting way to get it eaten and have the microbes spread by the predator.
