Does anyone else think this is a brown recluse?
Blurry, but looks like one. I live in western Kentucky, and catch about one every week on average-just in my bedroom alone. They are in almost every nook and cranny of my garage and pole barn, also. Once every great while, I wake up with a bite from one. I’ve learned to keep my bedding from reaching the floor. They are very creepy looking when they come up over the side of the mattress-lit only by the light of the TV.
Oh-took a minute for your photo to fully load to my phone. Not blurry at all now. That is 100% a brown recluse!
There are pics of a few (dying) ones on my profile page you can look at.
Hi, this is not a brown recluse. This is a male southern house spider, Kukulcania hibernalis. It looks very similar to a brown recluse. You can tell the difference by the very long pedipalps that the southern house spider has. The messy web in the background is its web.
Thanks, I didn’t know to look at the pedipalps for K. hibernalis. I’ll add that to my list of helpful identification tips I’ve learned from other volunteers.
Oh. Thanks. It does look so similar to the recluses that have infested my home. I thought maybe the marking on its body was too light to see in the pic. Sorry about the misinformation.
