She’s a great example of a Tropical Orbweaver, Eriophora ravilla. Yes, different types of spiders have different defensive poses and hers is curling up with her legs over her head. She’s a cute little hairy thing.
Odd that she is a tropical orbweaver since we are not in a tropical area. My husband and I just got back from the Florida Keys so maybe she hitched a ride back with us!!
“Tropical” is relative. https://spiderid.com/picture/90079/ Here’s the one I saw this year in SC. When we left SC this week the temps were in the 90’s, here in NH it is in the 40’s. I don’t expect to find a “Tropical ” anything around here. You had temps up to about 98 degrees F this week. I call that tropical compared to how I’m huddled with my dog for warmth right now…..so cold.
Yes our weather has been like tropical weather. In fact, it got up to 101 last Friday!! Thankfully it is cooling down.
That was the day I found my Tropical Orbweaver in Lakewood, SC. I don’t usually get to go swimming outdoors in October. I’m glad it rained and cooled. It had been extremely dry in the Sumter area. After the rain, birds appeared in big flocks.
It sounds funny talking about going swimming this time of year in SC! I am also glad the weather has cooled down!
