Hi, this is a Noble Cobweaver, Steatoda nobilis. This family of spiders, Theridiidae, makes the true cobwebs. It is dangerous to insects and other arachnids, not to people.
I might have got it incorrect, it might be a Black Lace Weaver. They make dark grey flat webs on horizontal and vertical surfaces. The webs twist into a funnel that the spider lives in. Steatoda noblis makes white cobwebs. They can both look really messy. I have one species in the cellar and the other upstairs. If they can make that much web they are getting nutrients from something. So, the next question is: what else lives in the basement that they are eating? Thank you I’ve got probably 50k in my basement to the point that everything down there is in a cocoon of webs.
