This picture was taken by a neighbor of mine. The spider appears to be hanging on some threads because the picture is of its underside. I’m thinking that it may be a Argiope spider (garden spider) because of its shape and because they are plentiful where we live.

Argiope aurantia. I think so anyway. The legs are orange on the upper part and black on the lower part, which is typical for aurantia.
