This big gal is a Giant Lichen Orbweaver, Araneus bicentenarius. Yes, artificial light sources at night attract nocturnal insects and the nocturnal spiders take advantage of that. During the sunlight hours they rest in a hidden niche next-to where they make their web. A window frame will do the job. If you look outside tonight she might be in a web. My yard orbweaver gets up late, she doesn’t start the web until about an hour after dark.
