Pretty sure this is a Star Bellied orb-weaver spider which I found at work and brought to the house and put on this Goldenrod to get some pictures. By the way, does anyone know why they’re called Star Bellied orb-weaver spiders?
Yes, she looks like Acanthepeira stellata. The abdomen is kinda star-like. https://bugguide.net/node/view/528648 Orbweaver means ‘One who weaves circles’, basically. The orb web is a style of web that is found in several different families of spiders. My profile photo art is an abstract design I made from a raised design on an old glass liquor flask. The circles in the web are the sticky strands. The straight lines are stronger supporting supporting strands.
