I would like to know what spider is this
I was eating grapes with my gf and she suddenly start screaming when she realised thst there’s spider in it.
Is there any experts who can recognise this creature.I would be very grateful
This is Steatoda paykulliana. It isn’t dangerous to humans. There are more spiders in grape shipments in modern times. This is mainly because of pesticide restrictions and the demand for organic produce. A healthy live harmless spider on the fruit is better than poison and dead spiders on the produce.
Thanks very much
I was going to say seems like it would be a member of Steatoda but it’s hard to say from the picture.
S. paykulliana has more noticeable leg banding than the other Steatoda spp. of the region. The dorsal marking that looks like big stitches doesn’t look like any other spider in Ireland that I know of. That marking and the light-colored semicircle over the top of the abdomen are what I used as the basis of my identification offering.
Looks like you’re right. I thought they were found in more Mediterranean regions typically, but then again, spiders that aren’t typically seen in Ireland are showing up all over the country so I wouldn’t take that too seriously.
