Hi, and welcome to the site. Given I see visible hairs on the legs, this is not a recluse.
What I see, looks more like a running crab spider in he Philodromidae family, nothing of concern.

You might note the second pair of legs the longest,a good clue.

Kyle

I am responding because of the severity of how wrong this comment is. Even though the picture is quite blurry, this spider is in fact a recluse. Their venom can definitely be medically significant to humans. I will be removing your comment in a few days because of the level of certainty being expressed, and because of the type of spider. Normally, we never remove comments from mistaken IDs.

BugmanDan

I will be more careful in the future, I seem to be getting a lot of resistance lately, I can only guess you have washed the photo enhancing detail for your certainty.
I don’t seem to have the option to delete this myself.

KilleenWizard

Instead of deleting, do you have the option of adding an editor comment? You could do that in cases when the OP (BugmanDan) is not convinced and is reluctant to have it deleted.

Kyle

Very good idea. Thank you for suggesting it.

KilleenWizard

Having maintained forums myself, I’ve become extremely leery about deleting anything from someone else without extremely good reason, to avoid complaints of censorship, etc., when an alternative is available, even if the alternative is simply to hide the post.

KilleenWizard

Kyle, given that BugmanDan was certain it was a running crab spider, can you detail why you’re certain it’s a recluse?

Kyle

Just to clear things up a bit, we can never be absolutely certain. Especially from an image like this. Leg dispersion and diameter are distinct from running crab spiders. I understand the similarities, but the legs are much closer to a recluse than a running crab spider. Most importantly, if you look closely, you will see the iconic violin on the carapace surrounding the eyes. I lightened up the image a bit in Photoshop and mess with the contrast/levels, but you can see it in the original. You can also see the color contrast around the violin shape, going from… Read more »

Please don’t rewrite my post.” looks more like a running crab spider” does not suggest certainty. There is no option to delete a post. Trust me,I would have already deleted or edit it in light of this error.

Kyle

I used the language ‘certainty’ because of the addition of, “nothing of concern.” BugmanDan, let me know what you would like to do. I have no problem with just deleting this whole thread 🙂 – Your choice on this. I’m indifferent!

BugmanDan

Hi Kyle, Well I can do nothing further, You can file the photo appropriately and delete the thread at your call.

KilleenWizard

I didn’t intend that he rewrite your post, but instead add a note at the top or bottom, clearly attributed to a moderator.

As for you, you should have an edit option, so you can revise your own message to your taste, or, to reduce confusion by those who see a bunch of non-sequitur messages about a problem which doesn’t seem to exist, add your own note.

Edit: Oh, I see that the edit option goes away at some point, presumably when someone has replied.

BugmanDan

I would have greater faith with Kyle’s or Itsy Bitsy’s input in this particular case.
Given the scope of a medically signifificant spider, I would not intenionally suggest any harmless spider.
