thought it might be a banana spider
She’s a Black and Yellow Garden Spider, Argiope aurantia. They are one of the species people call Banana Spiders. She is extra big because it is nearly time for her to oviposit the eggs maturing in her body. Her venom isn’t medically significant and she’s not likely to bite. I’ve handled one recently and it just tolerated me. Spiders mainly bite to defend themselves and their offspring. Rough handling and holding one too tightly can pain the spider which may bite in self-defense.
