This was taken at a local beach near me. It appeared when I sat on a rock near the dunes. It took off on the sand.

Dolomedes triton. A Spotted Fishing Spider. Saltwater? I didn’t ever notice before that we have “ocean” as a location for sightings. I saw a pair of these spiders fishing next-to a pair of fishing humans alongside a brook. The spiders do it in a similar way. They stand on something and stick their feet in the water feeling for vibrations that feel like prey. The spiders dive underwater or walk on it to grab the prey. They have hairy bodies that cause air bubbles to form on them when they dive. The bubbles help them come back to the surface.… Read more »
