Comments & ID Thoughts
Walked by this spider and almost crapped myself. 20 years living around the Baton Rouge area, and I’ve never seen a spider this big. The body (butt to teeth) is 4 -5.5 inches long with almost an inch wide butt (thorax?). It is sitting on the ground 8 feet from the neighborhood pond (you know, the kind of neighborhood that they put lighted fountains in). The resolution of my picture is about all I have on any more information.

From a first glance, I’m guessing it’s a tarantula. But I’m unsure of what type of tarantula it is.
Thanks for the reply! I’m clueless on spiders bigger than a quarter lol.
It’s a Wolf Spider, I’m not sure which one. They aren’t dangerous to people. I like your description of the neighborhood, yes I know the kind of place – where people probably don’t want big spiders around their decorative ponds and lighted fountains. For a similar place I posted pictures of their big spiders online on Google Maps and added comments like, “This Wolf Spider is not dangerous to people or pets.” They get a lot of views, I hope it is for good reasons.
Oh, I’m sorry. I’m still tryna learn these things.
No problem! No need to apologize, we learn from our forum discussions and nobody knows everything about spiders.
Yes it is a wolf spider because you can tell by the front of the spider.
