Marbled Orbweaver figure. There is a wiki on iNaturalist forming a collection of orbweaver ventral photos. If anyone would like to submit their own pics, the person creating the wiki needs more https://forum.inaturalist.org/t/identifying-common-orbweavers-from-the-underside-wiki/275

Did you make the figure? I was excited that you might be a spider artist for a moment there, haha. You would have liked the old version of this site (Spiders.us) … there were forums for art, spider memes and general discussions. I have no idea if any changes were made to the site. 🙁 I haven’t uploaded images myself in a while and don’t remember what to expect.
I think my parents bought it in a gift shop. They didn’t get the reference to a Marbled Orbweaver, they just liked it. I do plan to make spider art, I have a lot of materials to work with and art training and friends and family who are professional artists. That was my original career choice before science won me over. I hope you don’t mind that this site is increasingly adding memes, literary discussions, and general spider-related science discussions. I think humans (and even spiders) are compelled to decorate everything artistically. I have a cat that takes my decorative… Read more »
I got the reference. 🙂 I haven’t noticed any memes, but I’m sure I miss a lot as I can’t keep up with it all. I don’t know where all the time goes, I feel like I should have more time now but I’m getting less done than ever. Not helping that I really need to update my glasses Rx.
I think art and discussion boards were left out here to streamline the site and keep things less complicated. I miss them though. I’m an artist at heart.
*Itsy Bitsy * I had trouble submitting the photo. Have we always had the option to choose the size of the photo? I haven’t seen that before. I didn’t change the size of the photo itself, any different from my others. The site kept rejecting each size as not valid, but wouldn’t let me submit the photo without choosing one. Eventually it submitted.

There’s a reference page of orbweaver ventrals on BugGuide.net too: https://bugguide.net/node/view/295445
That’s fantastic! I hadn’t seen this version where it was all put together. This is easier to use. It’s getting added to my links I use.
It’s a shame these info pages are difficult to find. The secret to finding the the rest of them is to go to the Spiders (Araneae) info page and scroll to the bottom, there’s a few more good ones there: Eye arrangements Similar looking members of different families Spiders with red markings: A quick guide Black/dark brown and white spiders Spider sign (webs, egg sacs & more) Small eastern Araneus: A habitus-based key The larger male orb weavers Ventral images of some Araneidae Wolf Spider Ventrals The most misunderstood spiders Setting the record straight on the class Arachnida Spider wish… Read more »
Forgot the link: https://bugguide.net/node/view/1954
Thanks! I didn’t realize the info was clustered that way. I was googling the topic then clicking on Bugguide’s search result to find things like that. Maybe someday SpiderID will have a convenient search bar too. I google a species name and use the link to go back to SpiderID because it is quicker than scrolling through the alphabet of Spiders. You’re a moderator on Bugguide?
Not exactly a moderator but I’m active there too. 🙂
Did I get this one correct? https://spiderid.com/picture/96930/
We would like your opinion on this one please. Araneus nordmanni? https://spiderid.com/picture/97004/
Brown or Black Widow? https://spiderid.com/picture/97147/?
Please ID this one. https://spiderid.com/picture/97338/ I think it is Steatoda albomaculata, but would like a second opinion since it has been introduced to New Zealand from Canada.
Please delete my conversations with Aragog4life regarding the exposure of personal metadata on two of her photos on the site after she gets a chance to read the latest. I tried other photos on the site and the info isn’t clearly visible on any of the others that I tested. Thanks!
OK. I’ll try to remember check back on it in a day or two. Holiday stuff is eating up all my free time. I didn’t get notifications for any of these posts, I’m seeing a lot of them now for the first time. I think you need to respond directly to something I’ve said for me to get a notification or else I might miss it. 🙁
Thanks! I’ll change how I try to contact you and I understand that the holidays are time-consuming. It’s good that they coincide with fewer spider sightings. 🙂
Just popping in to say hi, hope you’re well. Have I missed anything crazy here?
Hi! I missed this note, sorry. How’s life? Things are going very well in Spiderland. We have fantastic volunteers with lots of enthusiasm and knowledge. We even have an excellent 7 year-old who is doing as well as an adult! We’re doing well handling the trolls that get through, not giving them any thrills. Our administrator emailed me and explained why he’s been absent from near the start and he thanked me for holding things down. He said he wants to do a major overhaul of the site and relaunch this summer (I know what you’re thinking, I remember). He… Read more »
Yes, as of now the kids are all supposed to go back this fall and masks are supposed to be optional… Glad to hear things are going well here.
https://wmur.com/article/a-new-species-of-tarantula-discovered-in-thailand/38850130 A new genus and species of tarantula was discovered in Thailand! Ignore my “Marbled Orbweaver” photo, it’s the pic I use to post an announcement. 🙂
