Found this on my patio in Suwanee, GA. What is it? The body reminds me of “Steve’s” shirt from the kids tv show “Blues Clues”!

Can anyone tell me what type of spider this is? I’ve never seen one like it. It’s abdomen is large and round with green stripes
This is Trichonephila clavata, a Joro spider. They aren’t medically dangerous to people. They are an Asian species that was accidentally imported to North America.
Thank you! I haven’t been able to find any pictures of it online. Where/how did you find it?
I have it memorized. Searching the Latin name should bring results. There are articles about how it became introduced and how the name Joro (“whore”) spider came about via Asian mythology. Bugguide.net should have photos. Also try searching Nephila clavata, the Latin name of it before the Taxonomy changed. If you can’t find enough let me know and I would be happy to send you links.
