Comments & ID Thoughts
This was crawling on my bedroom ceiling this morning. As a rule I'm not afraid of spiders, yet this one concerned me as I'd never seen one like this before. I tried to look it up and Google kept coming up with a Brown Widow spider? Any help in identifying it would be grateful. I live in the Midlands "Burton Upon Trent".

It gave me an even worse answer of, “Queensland Whistling Tarantula”. If you see one of those on your ceiling we want to see it! Yours has a posture of a Tangleweb Spider in family Theridiidae. The third answer from Google, which referenced this site, was Steatoda grossa, a False Black Widow. The third or fourth answer for spiders on Google Lens is often correct. I give feedback to Google to improve Lens.… Read more »
Thank you for your reply. Each time I tried Google lens it either gave me Triangular Spider or Nobel / grossa False Black Widow. It was making webs across the ceiling. I have other images if they will help?
A dorsal view is best for identification of most spiders from photos. Extra pics can be uploaded as new posts. Just make a note that they go with a previous pic and we can find it. Google uses your previous searches to feed you back more of the same. My insect and plant photos get identified as spiders because that is what is expected of me.
