Comments & ID Thoughts

This spider dropped out of our apple tree while I was picking apples this past August 2019. I live in Vernon, BC Canada.

I think she is Araneus gemma. She’s an Orbweaver in family Aranidae. She isn’t dangerous, except to flying insects. She may have dropped out of the tree because she felt threatened by the movements you were causing in the tree. When I try to photograph Orbweavers I need to remember to not touch the foliage when I see one. Once on the ground they are good at hiding.
