This spider had a leg span of about five inches and was in a web spanning about two feet between shrubs in my flower bed.

I really want to know what this guy is.
This is Argiope aurantia, a Black and Yellow Garden Spider. She is a spider that makes the classic orb (circle) webs. The adult females make the big webs. Immature Orbweavers make tiny versions to catch smaller insects. She isn’t dangerous to people nor aggressive. I gently handled one this year. The spider didn’t like it, but she tolerated my photo session with her.
Thank you for your answer, I felt privileged to have such a beautiful guest and her web was sensational. I hope she enjoys her spot, we are enjoying her webs.
