Hi! This spider has made a home between the screen and window in my dad’s kitchen and I am fascinated by it. It has a huge silky web with a buffet of caught insects, including two other smaller spiders . I can’t figure out what type it is- this is the first time I’ve been able to get a pic of its back, it’s belly is usually facing in. Thanks for any help in identifying!
This is a big Grass Spider. They aren’t dangerous to people, in case your dad is wondering about that. They are very difficult to identify to species. It involves genitals and a microscope and things the spider would not appreciate. I’m glad your dad is tolerating it. The display of dead insects should be enough to convince someone the spider is useful. I let my kitchen window spiders keep their dead bug display for that reason. You can recognize Grass Spiders by their long wavy legs, brown and whitish stripes, a protruding spinnerets that give their posteriors a pointy look.… Read more »
