Is it a garden spider? It is big! Found outside a house hanging from a tree.

Yes, she’s a Garden Spider, Araneus diadematus. She also has a common name of Cross Orbweaver because of the markings on her back. The females are much bigger than the males and their abdomens get larger as their eggs mature. She needs to be big to catch big insects in her big webs and to internally grow her eggs to a large size. This species is very successful, it is now in many parts of the world. I had one in my yard this year in the Northeast (cold, rocky, forests and wetlands) of United States.
