I’ve came across many spiders, but i don’t think I’ve ever been this terrified by one. I know there are bigger spiders out there but this one topped all the others I’ve seen… it moves pretty fast as in it was taking tiny hops to get around!
It IS hopping, it’s a Jumping Spider. I think the species is Phidippus californicus. It’s in the right place. They are ambush hinters rather than web hunters. They aren’t dangerous to people. From the front they have cute faces with fluffy mouthparts and two big round forward-facing eyes (and more small eyes facing a variety of directions).
Looks like an orb weaver type..I’m not an expert though just had my own encounter with this kind
