Guessing this is a female Araneus diadematus, or Cross Orb-weaver. We get plenty of them designing webs on the house in the late summer here in Minnesota.

I think she’s a Hentz Orbweaver, Neoscona crucifera. They have a “cross” mark (the species name means ‘cross bearer’) like Araneus diadematus. They’re a little bit confusing. N. crucifera has broad lines in the mark or none. A. diadematus has a mark that looks like dribbled white paint. I’m glad that you don’t mind their garden decor designs. 🙂
