Comments & ID Thoughts

Hi, please help! I have found about 6 or 7 of these in my dorm room in Durham, NC and killed them all. Some of my friends believe that these are brown recluses. I found this guy in my closet, just crawling around on the wall. I want to make sure that it’s not poisonous, and not a brown recluse. Thank you!!

Hi, welcome to Spider ID. 🙂 This is a male Southern House Spider, Kukulcania hibernalis. The extra long pedipalps (appendages near the spider’s mouth) are an easy way to tell them apart from Recluses (Loxosceles sp.).
