Araneus Diadematus, Cross Orb Weaver.
Found this beautiful female cross in my window sill above my air conditioner! I first noticed her in late August and she stayed until early November.

This is a great photo of her carefully wrapping prey. The food stays fresh longer, like people do with our large amounts of food. It is normal for the females to die or go to the ground to look for food in Autumn. They have made their egg sacs by then. The eggs hatch in Autumn and the hatchlings can survive freezing temperatures and will be ready to disperse in the Spring. Hopefully a female will stay with you above the air conditioner.
