Picture of unidentified spider

Comments & ID Thoughts

Came across this picture of a mystery spider I took a few years ago. Still extremely curious as to what species this may be? Some sort of orb weaver perhaps?

Hi, I think this is Araneus guttulatus, an Orbweaver. From the one confirmed photo our site has received of the species, it appears to have a green cephalothorax and legs. That would explain why your spider looks half transparent on a green leaf. I like the color combinationof it – light green, white, and ruby red. That’s why it is an image I have memorized.
