I’m not sure if it is Hibana gracilis or a sac spider in genus Cheiracanthum. It definitely isn’t a Brown Recluse. The Brown Recluses have a rounder and flatter cephalothorax.
Did it already have half its legs missing or did you do that?
I was surprised about that too. It was on my leg and I noticed it when it jumped off me or fell of me. So, yes it was already like that. For a second I thought that it was a 4 legged spider but I didn’t think that was possible.
They frequently lose their legs in narrow escapes and occasionally in molting mishaps. I’ve actually found one that only had three legs left, which inspired me to write this (to the tune of “99 bottles of beer on the wall”):
Johnny the three-legged spider
Johnny the three-legged spider
Where are the other five?
How is he even alive?
Johnny the three-legged spider!
