Found on green island in Taiwan. 3-4 inches long. I asked a local if it was dangerous and he said it would turn me into spider man. And then laughed and said i was very lucky to not be bit...

This is Nephila pilipes, the Giant Golden Orb-weaver. Like all orb-weavers, it is harmless. They can bite, but the venom is not medically significant.

The worst that could happen to you is if you scared yourself into a heart attack by walking into its web and finding it on your face.
