Maybe Meta menardi. Nancy is not a danger to society. Ned might be a more gender-appropriate name for him (and it’s my great-uncle’s name). I’ll ask our site moderator for an opinion on the species identification, I haven’t identified M. menardi before.
Thank you, I thought False Widow but didn’t think the legs looked orange enough. I can’t really call him Ned as my sons nickname is Ned but will rename him something more manly.
Yes, I wouldn’t name any any of my spiders or pets after anyone in my family. The references can end up confusing and/or insulting to other people. I had a friend in high school who named calves on her family farm after her friends. I became aware of the young ages of cattle that go to slaughter that way. I didn’t have a cow named after me very long. 🙁
Does anybody know what this spider is called? We named her Nancy but pretty sure that’s not her real name (or even that she is a she!)
