That looks more like a hummingbird’s nest
Thank you JazzMech, I didn’t know what hummingbird nests look like. It is quite possible that a spider was living in a vacated nest. Grass Spiders live in my birdhouses.
I’m far from an expert on anything, but I know I appreciate Everyone’s perspective. 🙂
I’m not saying I disagree 🙂 Quite the opposite, I appreciate that you can recognize what this could be better than I can. Not every photo submitted to our site is a spider, diverse knowledge is good. Spiders will take advantage of many objects to create retreats for themselves. This is a cute example since a spider was seen in the nest.
I went to a web site ” Nest Watch ” . It turns out that this is the cocoon of the silk moth Antherea polyphemus. Mistaken for a birds nest on occasion.
Interesting plot twist! Antherea polyphemus is definitely in Florida. I’ve found one of these moths, now I’ll watch for their cocoons. NestWatch is interesting, I didn’t know there was a citizen science website for observing bird nests. I saved the site in my online bookmarks, I already told two people about it since I read your note.
