I have no idea what kind of spider this is. I found it in my mailbox today. I've never seen a green spider before. I live in Oswego, NY.

This is Tetragnatha viridis. I haven’t seen one yet, but yes green spiders are interesting to find. Spiders have many forms of camouflage that they use to avoid being seen by preaching and prey. Green spiders with red are often on green plants with red stems. This time of year this species apparently seeks shelter to stay warm. We’ve had sightings of this species in NH and VT in cold weather this year. They are orbweavers in family Tetragnathidae They aren’t dangerous to people.
