Comments & ID Thoughts

This spider lives in the basement in the corner of a staircase step. It hangs out most of the time on its web, but occasionally will retreat to a crevice behind the web. The whitish stripe in the photo is the reflection of the flashlight lighting on the spider's abdomen. The spider appears to be solid black or very dark brown or very dark gray. No hourglass. After researching, I think this spider is a false black widow. But not certain.
