Comments & ID Thoughts

Found this in the northern woods of Indiana. It was found dead hanging from a web strung from a fallen dead tree. I've always wondered what kind of spider it was as it was one of the biggest I've ever seen.

Hi, and welcome to the site. This looks to be the ventral of a dark fishing spider, Dolomedes tenebrosus species.

Hi … this is actually exuviae of a Dark Fishing Spider (Dolomedes tenebrosus) … a shed skin – spiders molt when they grow. Welcome to Spider ID. 🙂
