Comments & ID Thoughts

Hello - I would like to know what kind of spider this is. Is there anything I should be concerned about? It was in my house. Thank you.

This is no spider! Six legs and antennae make it an insect! It is in the order Hemiptera, true bugs. These are mostly “plant bugs.” The white stuff it is covered with appears to be a fungus parasite. I will look into this! Quite interesting!

Did you spray this insect with some type of insecticide to make it white? My guess is it is in the family of leaf footed bugs, Coreidae.

Was the first one covered with white like this one?

Can i submit this photo to another site for help?

Ah HA! The masked hunter! Not fungal infected (which i doubted because it wouldn’t be walking around alive as infected as it appeared). This is an assassin bug! Reduvius personatus! Check it out…https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reduvius_personatus

These are so cool! I have them on the foundation of my house. The way they have things stuck to them remind me of caddis fly larvae. I found some of the fly larvae in a sandy creek for a ab class. The larvae were in clear tubes with silicate material coating them. In the sunlight they looked like they were covered in little diamonds.
