Hi, this is a Black and Yellow Garden Spider, Argiope aurantia. Your guess was close, this is a type of Orbweaver Spider.
Black and yellow garden spider, they not dangerous, but don’t mess with their web, they good for the house, and they very sweet.
Banana spider! (That’s not the correct name) use to feed them grass hoppers as kids, have had them crawl all over me with no issue but I don’t recommend that
What’s that orange thing to the left of the spider?!?
