I think this is a cobweb spider. It is probably a mature female Steatoda nobilis…. noble false widow. They lose their markings as they mature. They get a lot of bad press in this side of the world. They are harmless to humans
That’s interesting that they lose their markings, Banded Garden Spiders are the only other spiders I can think of that do. I’m celebrating the Winter Solstice today, the joy of longer sunlight hours is ahead. 🙂
S. Nobilis spiders like to hang out on my south facing kitchen window. I kept an eye on a large female during the summer..she would dissappear to molt for a few days and each time she would reappear she would have lost a bit of her pattern. Apparently males don’t molt as often and so retain theirs.
