I assume this is the same individual as in the other image? Zoropsis spinimana, mature male.
Yes, I posted both.
So, it looks is like this spider is identified, what can you tell me about it. Is it invasive to Northern Ca, (San Francisco bay area). Is it’s bite harmful to humans, do I relocate it, or do I destroy it? I would only destroy if it’s harmful to humans and surrounding species.
They are native to the Mediterranean and coastal countries of northern Africa. They’re not considered to be of medical significance and are relatively recently introduced to CA (mid 1990’s). I don’t really know how they’re affecting native species, controlling them is unnecessary according to this: http://ipm.ucanr.edu/PMG/PESTNOTES/pn74143.html
So, is it a good idea to relocate it, if so, where is best?
If you would like to release him I would let him go away from the perimeter of your home so that he doesn’t find his way back in, and in leaf litter or vegetation.
