Is this a garden spider? It’s huge!
Hi. Yes, your spider is one of the Argiope garden spiders, Black and yellow garden spider, Argiope aurantia species. Not dangerous a all. She is watching over her egg sac,she may move i o a protected place before she expires. Eggs will hatch next spring so may have another ext season.

She made her egg sac on the outer portion of my fence closer to the open street. I’m so afraid someone/thing will mess with it. How do I keep it safe?
I have retrieved their sac after the mama passes,in a small jar left open, placed in my porch out of the way, out of sun, rain, snow etc. ‘DONT’ bring them indoors, if they hatch out of season, the spiderlings will not survive. As the weather warms for the spring, just watch for hatching, many hundreds of tiny yellow spiders, a couple or few days hey disperse by ballooning away, perhaps one or few will stay nearby in bushes or shrub. the sac is very rugged and will proect the eggs/spiderlings from freeze and element. Predators are the biggest worry.

I was worried that the mom had died as I haven’t seen her around the egg sac for two days. I just found her on the opposite side of the house. Do I receive the egg sac to keep it safe or leave it for a bit? I don’t want to make her mad but we don’t want to help keep the little ones safe.
Hi. I would just leave the sac alone for now, unless you find they may be in eminent danger.
Severe weather or maybe something like ants, otherwise they may be just fine all winter where they are.
