Males wandering in search of females? Yours does seem to be a male. If you’re also seeing females then I would think they were driven out of their homes by water? Has it been raining? Or maybe something destroyed their burrows like construction? (Edited for typos.)
They did tear down an old abandoned house nearby and it was also raining. It kind of scared me at first thinking we had some type of infestation since i had never seen them before. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. Should i be worried or let them be. I am not a huge fan of bugs but if they do not cause issues i would not mind them eating any water roaches that i try to kerp out of the house.
I would definitely let them be, they’re not considered to be of medical significance to people and are usually out of sight. If it was the rain and construction that disturbed them they’ll likely make new homes and go back into hiding soon. Same if it’s just mating season. He’s a cool find.
Hi, welcome to SpiderID. 🙂 It looks like you found a Cork-lid Trapdoor Spider (Ummidia sp.).
(Note to admin.) Genus needed for Ummidia.
What would cause them to all of a sudden be in and around my home in large numbers?
