Comments & ID Thoughts

I live in the Austin area and have now found 7 individuals that look similar to the one pictured over the course of the last year. I am suspicious this might be a Brown Recluse however I could never make out the notorious violin pattern which leads me to believe this might be a Texas Recluse. Any help in identifying this spider would be much appreciated.

Hi, welcome to Spider ID. 🙂 This is one of the Ground Spiders (Gnaphosidae). Sometimes they can be difficult to ID past family from just an image without a lot of detail. Here is a similar species found in your region for comarison (Urozelotes rusticus): http://macroid.ru/showphoto.php?photo=69422
