Hi. Your little friend is a wolf spider, Lycosidae family. Hogna species, may even be Hogna carolinensis,your state spider. Those are the largest of wolf spiders.
Had a bunch in my yard, one I tried handling was all of 4 inches across the legs and carrying her brood.

This is inconclusive, a couple other species look the same from top, a look at her bottom, I could peg this.
Garage is a good place for her
