Tentative ID give the image quality. This looks like a Giant Crab Spider, Olios giganteus.

Hi, I will second that, I know these spiders well, used to play with them when I was younger.
Although I knew them as just crab spiders, another moniker is the golden huntsman spider.

Are these the ones you had battle against toy tanks? 😉 You had an awesome childhood!

BugmanDan

No, don’t recall putting any spiders up for battle and these are just fun to handle. I didn’t have many around, but at my aunts place in Orange county you could bet on finding one.
Quick trying to catch them but easy to handle.
Had a video f such but lost the link.

Oh sorry, that was someone else on the site’s childhood adventure with spiders. It’s something I can imagine doing when I was a kid. There was an abandoned barn near my grandparents with lots of antlions. They’re awesome, my cousin and I had fun placing ants on the edges of the antlions’ funnel sand traps.
