Hi, it looks like a Nursery Web Spider, Pisaurina mira. I was waiting for someone to use the username Hammerhead! Good job Spider Patrol! This is a spider that has eyeshine- light reflects off of the eyes like it does with some other nocturnal animals. Fishing spiders are in the same family. They are ambush predators rather than using a trap, like a web. In my experience, they rarely move. If your kids had contact with her she may have bitten if they held her too long or tightly.
