Comments & ID Thoughts
This spider (were 2 in total) was living inside an old garden compositor that had rotten grass inside, the webs were stringy and large. It is about 15-20mm accross.

Google lens says that this is a tube Web spider which is entirely possible, great to have this confirmed.
I’m a tester giving Google feedback on the accuracy of Lens, it does very poorly with spiders. It is much more useful for insects and plants. I’m giving info about what Lens misses in an identification and what it gets correct. With spiders it puts too much weight on the background of the photo rather than the subject.
Thanks, that would be helpful
Hi, this is a Black Lace-weaver, Amaurobius ferox.
That’s great, thanks ItsyBitsy, good to know, I had the larger female running over my hand (with gloves on) in case it bites. I had a spider bite a couple of years ago in the same area that the black lace weaver spiders lived, that match that the syptoms description, swelling etc. My whole leg (where the bite was) went black from some kind of anti coagulant in the venom, lasted about 3 weeks, was OK after that though.
