Comments & ID Thoughts

My guess is this is Dolomedes tenebrosus (dark fishing spider), 2.5" leg span so presumably a female? Most spiders don't find enough to eat in my basement so surprised to find this large healthy specimen in March.

Yes, it is a female. The other large Dolomedes in your area is D. scriptus. Both are a bit variable in how brightly patterned they are and how dark overall. If you can get a look at one from front on, D. tenebrosus has a small vertical white mark between and above the jaws (like a little white moustache) and D. scriptus does not have the white mark in the centre.
