Banded garden spider (Argiope trifasciata). Based on what I had read about markings, it appears to be a female.

Is this the same as a Wasp Spider?
Very similar. All of the Argeope garden spiders cat trap wasps in their webs and become lunch.
The Argiope species that is specifically called a Wasp Spider as a common name is Argiope bruennichi. They look almost the same, we’re identifying it as A. trifasciata based on the geographic range of each species.
Yes, the image posted by Beckyc is A. trifasiata.
