Silver Garden Spider? But all of the pictures I see of this spider are warm weather hmm

I am sure this is the banded Argeope and looks like she has laid some eggs, maybe another sac to go. Yea, after the last of the egg sacs have been hidden, she won’t live but a wek or two. They can tolerate temps down to freezing, but rain can be hard on them.

I love it when kids want to know more! Another answer for why she isn’t moving is that it is her goal in life to help her babies. These spiders guard the babies and hide them with their bodies. She may die protecting them. He should know that the babies will survive in cold weather, they are freeze-resistant. They continue to develop in the egg sac. Slugs and earthworms are also freeze-resistant. You can show him this by moving clumps of leaves in cold weather.
