Hi, this is a Cellar Spider. They are quite harmless, the worst they do is make webs that get dusty. The best that they do is catch almost any bug ( including other spider species) that gets into the house. I have lots of them. There’s even one hanging out next-to me at the moment.
That’s great to know. Thank you! This guy (or gal) has been hanging out in our bathroom for a while now, living its best life in the corner of the shower. My husband is petrified of spiders (he was bit by a brown recluse as a child) but for whatever reason never noticed the spider until I pointed it out last night. Of course when I start looking at pictures, I was convincing myself that this is either a recluse or brown widow. Thanks again!
You’re quite welcome! I think these have longer thinner legs than recluses. I’ve never seen a Brown Recluse in-person. My husband is doing a great job of overcoming his spider phobia ( different than a fear based on an actual bite). He and other people have found it helpful to take photos of the spiders they see to lose fear. Helping people feel calmer around spiders is really the most basic reason our website exists. Once people feel safe they like to see photos of spiders. Cellar Spiders are a good start. They rarely move. You might see it drink… Read more »
